Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!
Queen Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary) – a monarch of The House of Windsor, was born on 21 April 1926, became a Queen at the age of 25 (in 1952). The Queen is Head of State of United Kingdom and 15 Commonwealth realms and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
This Doll was made in 2010. Height: 31 cm (without a crown). Material: pigmented wax, wire, fabric. Costume: three layers of clothing.
During the last exhibition at the Gibson Centre for Community, Arts and Culture (Alliston, Ontario), where this doll was on display, one of the visitors asked me a question:
“Is she in mourning?”
No, She is not. Six years ago when I worked on this doll I specifically chose this the most unusual image of Her Majesty The Queen. That dramatic outfit caused some shock among the press corps of those days.
1980
The Queen was the first British monarch who made a state visit to Vatican. It was an important historical episode, which shown a new turning point in the relations between the Church Of England and the Roman Catholics.
According to the Protocol “women visiting the Pope in the Vatican should wear long dresses and veils – white for Roman Catholics, black for those of other religions”.
(Her Majesty The Queen was wearing the famous “Vladimir Tiara,” which was made in Russia in circa 1890, The Royal Family Orders of King George V (blue silk) and King George VI (pink silk) and The Order of the Garter).
The outfit for the doll was made on the basis of Ian Thomas’s design. Ian Thomas was a British fashion designer who created the black silk, velvet and taffeta dress worn by her Majesty the Queen in 1980 to meet Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.

Emily Murphy. “The Historical Figures of Canada” by Irina Gorelkina
Emily Murphy (14 March 1868 – 17 October 1933). Canadian women’s rights activist, jurist and author.
“In 1916 she became the first female magistrate in Canada and in the British Empire. She is best known for her contributions to Canadian feminism, specifically to the question of whether women were “persons” under Canadian law.”

This doll is on display at the Gibson Centre for Community, Arts and Culture (Alliston, On) as a part of the “International Women’s Day exhibition”.

Two days ago. The Gibson Centre for Community, Arts and Culture (Alliston, Ontario).
I am happy to tell you that more than twenty works of mine were accepted to be a part of a beautiful theme exhibition “From Head to Toe”, which celebrates the International Women’s Day.
I am grateful to administration of the Gibson Centre for Community, Arts and Culture (Alliston, Ontario) and to South Simcoe Arts Council for making this fascinating event happen.
