Sir Arthur William Currie (5 December 1875 – 30 November 1933) – Lieutenant-General, the Canadian Corps commander (1915-1917), was never popular among the soldiers, but thanks to his talent in the military tactics and his human principles Canadian troops have never lost a single battle under his command.

His motto: “Pay the price of victory in shells – not lives”.
